At an upcoming expo and conference, learn about the wide-ranging community partnerships and the impact they are making every day...The Office for University Outreach event, held April 13 to 14 in the Baker University Center Ballroom, will encourage university and local community members to explore existing partnerships and create new ones...On Friday, April 13, the Outreach EXPO will showcase the work of more than 50 exhibitors with relationships in the region. Groups such as Kids on Campus and African Americans in the Ohio River Valley as well as individual researchers from Athens and regional campuses will share posters. Athens group Rattletrap Stringband, which calls itself a "blues, ragtime, hillbilly" band, will add local color to the event...Emphasizing the focus on Appalachia, "Grandmother of Appalachian Studies" Helen Lewis will present a keynote lecture Friday evening. Lewis is past president of the national organization Appalachian Studies Association and has taught at more than half a dozen Appalachian colleges and universities...The event continues on Saturday, April 14, with the conference "A Celebration of Teaching, Research and Service in Appalachian Ohio." It will include panels about education, research and service in Appalachia as well as a brainstorming session about a potential Ohio University Appalachian studies program...Faculty, staff, students and community members are encouraged to attend the event.
